35 different kinds of snow by John Moore
Written to create a Brill Building "instant pop classic", it took fifteen minutes to write and an hour to record. The percussive stomp throughout is the cushions from the settee, and the guitar is a 1962 Gretsch. Drums were added in LA, and sent via the internet – so the song does make it there – but with no carbon footprint.

LD Has 2021 been fun?
JM In a way yes. Waiting on the brink of the hereafter has not been without its highlights.
I sat in the sun, painted pictures. recorded music, and grew my hair to an embarrassing length. Each evening, I read the bible to Marie, my girlfriend, in the voice of Reginald Kray...she doesn’t seem to mind. Read War and Peace.
LD What's the best Christmas present you've ever received?
JM Johnny 7 machine gun and grenade launcher. It was the must have machine gun of 1969 - oh, and a fountain pen, last year. Had to mention that one!
LD What are your fave Xmas chart hits and festive carols?
JM Nothing beats Slade, even The Cambridge Carol Singers. Gaudete by Streeleye Span is right up there. That Mariah Carey one is good, too. I Saw Three Ships, sung by castratis must have been a blast! Not so many Aron d these days.
Favourite carol would be God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, for festive reasons, and Little Donkey, Because for years, I’ve been assaulting my family with an extraordinary rendition...a similar experience to the bible reading.
LD Do you wish it could be Christmas every day?
JM Quite frankly, I often wish it wouldn’t be Christmas at all. It always comes at the wrong time...and clashes with my birthday. If you watch the TV channels I watch, it practically is Christmas every day ... from late July at least
LD Do you think about Jesus as much as you think about your former bandmates in The Jesus & Mary Chain?
JM I can’t differentiate between them! Got to be careful of the blasphemy here, or Reg will want to see me.

LD Are there any charities you support?
Well, if you count the charity shops of W Hampstead, I am a great and regular benefactor, but I haven’t signed up to any on the TV just yet. Now I feel like Scrooge – another Christmas dude – who was saved.
