Le Document — Issue Fifteen

Le Document — Issue Fifteen

Dear Reader,

Welcome to issue 15 of Le Document.

We write this editorial as Mother’s Day comes to a close. God invented Mothers as he couldn’t be everywhere at once. We love most Mums and we love most police officers too but, to be honest, we’re still reeling from seeing the images of police brutality that took place at last night’s vigil for Sarah Everard. (For those who don't know ... a serving Metropolitan Police officer has been arrested and charged with Sarah Everard’s abduction and murder. The abduction is thought to have happened on Clapham Common in London).

We live in disturbing times and we live in a time where people still say “She was raped” instead of “He raped her” and they say “protect your daughter” instead of “educate your son” and fighting back against the bad police officers is not easy. Everyone at Le Document prays our female readers will never need this service BUT if you are a women who is beaten up or sexually assaulted by a police officer, because of the existence of the Rights of Women organisation you can talk to a criminal barrister for free for an hour. If you read Le Document and you’re not poor, maybe you’d consider making a donation to them?

In this months issue we have a fantastic Painting of the Month from Marie Louise-Plum, juxtaposed against Drawing of the Month from Florence Tosic who has acquired a Blue Peter badge by drawing Henry the dog in a fairy garden. Only Le Document can mash up that kind of culture and get away with it.

But seriously, it’s been almost 12 months since the first lockdown started. Harry is still furloughed and I am still working in the garden shed. But there is light at the end of the tunnel as we make our way through the last few weeks of the first quarter of 2021. We should all be able to hangout together and enjoy Spring as it slowly turns to Summer. According to google, British Summer Time starts on the 28th March so don’t forget to re-set your clocks and I’m sure we will quickly regain any lost confidence as we move towards a post-pandemic mode — bring it on!

So without further distractions, we want to thank all our contributors this month: Photo of the Month comes from Christian Butler-Zanetti, Dennis the bloodhound is Pet of the Month and Harry shows off his rare Tate Gallery shop assistant badge for Badge of the Month. Mikey Geoergeson makes two appearances in this issue, first reviewing the brilliant Looking for a Kiss by Richard Cabut and then he sings his way through a fantastic rendition of the classic tune Smile as Mr Solo for Single of the Month. Jo Mama delivers a superb profile of Movie Star Patricia Arquette, there is a frank review of the new Adam Curtis six-part film Can’t get you out of my Head by Richard and Chris Tosic and Rochelle Roberts, our in house Poetry Editor, gives a deep and rewarding analysis of Seán Hewitt’s poem Two Apparitions. Finally, we want to thank Christopher Staruli for the insightful Q & A of the Month.

We hope you the readers get as much pleasure from these articles as we did in compiling them. Until next month … vive le Document!

Lots of love from
Harry and Chris at Le Document

P.S. Mr Solo's version of "Smile" (which is our Song of the Month) can be downloaded FREE of charge if you visit ... here.
