Sunset by Christian Butler-Zanetti
Christian Butler-Zanetti is a London-based author, visual artist and musician. Before lockdown descended he ran Spineless Authors’ Night, a monthly open-mic event for new and emerging writers. Christian is a member of the post-punk band The Pheromoans and sound collage duo The Teleporters. He also performs occasionally as the appalling poet and fringe figure Mad Headed Octogram.
“I’ve become slightly obsessed with photographing sunsets. I take thousands of them. I like how universal they are; anyone can engage with a sunset whereas a lot of contemporary image making — even if it’s brilliant — can be quite obscure.
It tends to scare a lot of people off. I also like that as Fine Art subject matter it's very old hat; very obvious, like Pink Floyd lyrics or something. I suppose I want to draw attention to something so obvious that the power of the images — and actually all the rich associations and the history and everything — have wound up being overlooked or taken for granted.”
