STUDIO 34, 2021, Oil pastel on paper, 29.7x42cm: I’ve always made drawings usually in preparation for painting but recently due to limitations of covid (lack of studio) they have been my main way of making, works in their own right. I love oil pastels they are versatile and like oil paint moist, smudgy, can be dragged, densely or lightly applied. The linear works are often based on compositions, shapes derived from the idea of making in the studio. I’m obsessed with the immediacy, range, pace and quality of line . All my paintings refer to my works on paper.
